Discover the inspiring journey of Adebukunola Oyindamola Abudu (RSS 1973/1977 set) from her roots in Ogun State to a trailblazing career in education, insurance, and social work in Canada. A devoted mother, grandmother, and woman of faith, Bukky embodies resilience, courage, and the true spirit of Remo Secondary School.

Meet Adebukunola Oyindamola Abudu, fondly called Bukky, one of our shining stars, an old student of Remo Secondary School 1973/1977 class set.

Born on September 2, 1960, in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, she was welcomed into the humble family of Pa J. F. Badero and Madam R. Adedeji Okuneye. Her roots are firmly planted in Ogun, with her father from Etitale in Ojowo Quarters, Ijebu Igbo, and her mother from Imodi Imosan near Ijebu Ode. Growing up in a polygamous family, she was the second child among six siblings from her mother’s side and the sixth among twelve children overall. With both parents being teachers, her early years were shaped by discipline, a strong moral compass, and a deep appreciation for education.

Her academic journey began at Oko II Primary School in Sagamu before she gained admission into Remo Secondary School in 1973, graduating in 1977. She continued at Methodist Teacher’s Training College in Sagamu, where she qualified as a teacher in 1979. From there, she proceeded to Ogun State College of Education in Ijebu Ode between 1980 and 1983 to obtain her NCE. Years later, while raising her two daughters, she went on to the University of Benin and successfully earned a Bachelor of Education in English in 1990.
She began her professional career as a teacher, working at Sagamu High School, Alapere Grammar School in Ketu, and Sango High School in Agege, Lagos. Although she was well trained and passionate about imparting knowledge, her heart leaned towards the corporate world. In 1991, she made a bold move into the insurance industry, joining Hogg Robinson Nigeria where she rose to managerial level in 1998 under the mentorship of the late M. O. Olusesi. Her career took a new turn in 2002 when she became the first Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, working alongside industry leaders, including the then Managing Director of NNPC, Engr. Obaseki. The demands of the oil and gas sector were intense, and after two years of constant travel and negotiations, she decided to return to her true passion for insurance. In 2004, she was appointed General Manager at Mascot Insurance Brokers, a position she held until her relocation to Canada in 2005, a move that defined yet another chapter of resilience and optimism.

In Canada, she continued to pursue her goals with determination. She fulfilled the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers and briefly taught at CW Jeffery High School, where she even had the rare privilege of teaching her own daughter’s class in Literature in English. However, her values as a disciplinarian clashed with the lenient Canadian approach to education, and she transitioned out of teaching. Never one to relent, she pursued her license as a Registered Insurance Broker of Ontario but later found deeper fulfillment in the health sector. Through George Brown College, she trained as a Developmental Social Worker and has since built an outstanding career, rising to the position of Program Coordinator at Christian Horizons while also working with agencies such as REENA, BCCL, and APTUS.

Adebukunola Abudu is not only a professional success story but also a woman of substance. She is prayerful, kind-hearted, generous, and cheerful, always quick to wear a smile even in challenging moments. Her hobbies reflect her vibrant personality, from traveling and dancing to cooking and listening to evergreen and gospel music. She is passionate about neatness, loves to vacation both with family and by herself, and is never shy about expressing joy through dance and laughter. She is equally a disciplinarian who does not tolerate indiscipline, yet her forgiving spirit, wisdom, and humor balance her strong values.

Above all, she is a devoted mother and grandmother whose sacrifices and unwavering support have seen her children through education, marriage, and the many challenges of life. She has been a pillar of encouragement, always available for her children, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. In her new chapter of life, she is joyfully married to Mr. Lateef Abudu, embracing a future filled with companionship, happiness, and peace.

Her favorite food remains semovita, her best-loved color is blue, and her guiding philosophy is simple yet powerful: one life to live, live it to the fullest. Her life is a testimony of resilience, courage, and grace. She embodies the very spirit of Remo Secondary School, standing as an inspiration to all who cross her path.
