
Meet Our Personality of the Week
Otunba Okemakinde Olalekan Olukayode was born on December 10, 1965, at Onireke Hospital in Ibadan. His father, Alimi Ishola Oke, worked as a technical officer in the then Western Region, while his mother's name is Folorunsho Unice Oke. He was born into a Muslim background, with his father hailing from Egba and his mother from both Sagamu and Isara Remo. His parents met in Ibadan, where his mother was a food vendor. He began his primary school education at Methodist School 2 Oke Ado Ibadan in 1971 and later completed it at IMG Kings Barracks between 1975 and 1977. Unfortunately, during his primary school years, he lost his left eye due to a painful incident.
Otunba Okemakinde, completed his primary education and subsequently went through several common entrance exams. He eventually attended Ibadan Grammar School, but due to poor results, he had to retake his exams at RSS. He was admitted into Form 3 and ultimately completed his secondary education. Despite facing academic challenges, he pursued part-time courses in mass communication, earning his OND from Lagos State Polytechnic and HND from Yaba College of Technology.
Otunba Okemakinde has a passion for broadcasting, a discovery made during his time at RSS. Although he initially aspired to become a medical practitioner, he found his true calling in broadcasting. Today, Otunba Okemakinde is a renowned broadcaster, having embarked on his career in 1984 with OGBC. He also holds the position of Managing Director at Lekkymoore Communication and Lekkymoore Dust to Dust Funerals. He is highly regarded for his expertise in moderation and has released several Ewi albums throughout his career.
During his time at RSS, Otunba Okemakinde experienced a transformative period that played a vital role in discovering his talents and interests. He actively engaged in various school activities, such as football, choir, press club, quiz and debating society, and more. One notable achievement was receiving the Best Student Participant award during the valedictory service, a significant accomplishment in his academic journey.
A memorable moment for him was when he led his team to victory in a Yoruba cultural heritage competition, where they competed against higher institutions, including Gbenga Adeboye, the renowned broadcaster.
He is currently married and has seven children. When it comes to food, he enjoys a variety of dishes, with rice and dodo, also known as obe osiki, being a favorite. He also has an appreciation for solid foods like pounded yam with egusi soup or Amala with ewedu and gbegiri.
His favorite color is yellow, and he has a particular fondness for lemon garnished with white. In terms of activities, Otunba Okemakinde Olalekan Olukayode engages in singing, dancing, playing football, table tennis, and mediating in challenging situations. He finds great satisfaction in helping to resolve difficult issues and putting things in order, making it a hobby he deeply enjoys.
