Meet our Personality of the Week, Aare Wemmy Olumide Osude, popularly known as Omo Yerolu. He was born on May 16 and hails from Ogun State. He is married and belongs to the Remo Secondary School (RSS) Class Set of 1973–1977. A man of many interests, he enjoys drumming, playing basketball, and political strategizing. His favorite food is seafood gumbo, and he lives by the quotes: "Our character often makes a difference on the treatment we receive from others" and "RSS Till I Die." He humorously recalls being “tolerated” by Femi Fagade and the late Morili Soleye as his best friends in school.

Aare Wemmy Osude’s educational journey spans prestigious institutions. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas Southern University. He also obtained a Master of Accountancy from Houston Baptist University and furthered his education at the renowned Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. He laid the early foundation of his academic excellence at Remo Secondary School, where he graduated in 1977.

Aare Wemmy had a progressive and accomplished career in Corporate America. He started as a Programmer and Data Analyst at Chase Bank, and later worked as a Financial Analyst at Tenneco Energy and Enron Corporation. He retired as a Senior Executive at ExxonMobil. Upon his return to Nigeria, he was appointed Special Adviser on Oil and Gas by then-Governor Gbenga Daniel and became the pioneer Managing Director/CEO of Gateway Oil and Gas Development Company, Ogun State. He later served as Director of Bitumen Development at Oodua Investments Ltd. At the national level, he was appointed Executive Director (Loans Administration) at the Federal Mortgage Bank by the late President Umar Yar’Adua and later confirmed as Acting Managing Director/CEO by President Goodluck Jonathan. He also served as Chief Operating Officer at Heyden Petroleum. Now fully retired from corporate life, he has turned to farming and community development, currently serving as Chairman of the Ilisan Development Association and Director General of the RSS @ 80 Planning Committee.

While he jokes about being the “Worst Mathematics student since RSS was founded,” Aare Wemmy takes pride in being crowned Chief Mischief Officer during his school days. His favorite memory remains the 1977 Prize-Giving Day, where he won accolades as Best Student in Economics and Best Student in English Language. His favorite teachers include Prince Asaye, Mr. Adisa, and Mr. Gibson. A man of deep loyalty and school pride, his parting shot is a rousing call: “Show your Green-Yellow pride. Support RSS at 80 historic development initiatives!”
